Lomilomi was originally handed down to the chosen one in a family. The gifted one would spend years observing the elder or huna. Lomi is more than a variety of techniques, it included the study of the 'aina (land) and herbal medicine, the use of bamboo sticks, salts, stones, chants ,pule & more.

Today, lomi is offered as a continuing education training by many skilled practitioners who have a passion and desire to share this beautiful tradition.

It is up to the individual to continue the shamanic journey and develop further.

One must hold dear these ancient principles and understand the responsibility and privilege we have to touch another's heart and soul.

Many students dedicate years of study to this practice. It is not uncommon for students to take a training multiple times. Each time, the healing deepens, the connections expand and you blossom, like a lotus flower.

Kahu Dane Silva is a Native Hawaiian healer and instructor of the Hawaiian healing and martial arts. Experienced in the use of la'au lapa'au or Hawaiian medicine, Kahu Kaohe has been providing both educational and healing services for four decades. He is a co-founder of the Kupuna La’au Lapa’au O Hawai’i, where he continues to serve as the Secretary. His training in Hawaiian spirituality and healing has been his main focus for his career. He was acknowledged as a kahuna pule in the line of Lono, in 1981, at the Pu’uhonua ‘O Honaunau, Hale O Keawe. He currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of Halau Kauila ‘O Kaohelani, a non-profit, learning center and retreat in Puna, Hawai’i.
